PRESIDENT'S CHAT

The AGM served to remind us of the many and varied activities undertaken by the Club over the past ten months. In my view the reports reflect a Club in good heart with members participating actively in Club service. SVP Harry’s membership drive is highly commendable. It reminds us all to keep on the lookout for potential members. It was a real privilege to welcome Sarah, Andrew and Bruce to Rotary membership.

I did enjoy the President’s Dinner and in particular I appreciate the work undertaken by so many to make it a success and also the generosity of those in attendance.

The Black Dyke Band concert was simply superb and here again the Club is indebted to all members who helped make this event such a success. In particular I would express my personal thanks to SVP Harry for making the concert possible in the first place.

I was pleased to see so many members attending the meeting last Tuesday and enjoying the speaker and the fellowship and the fun.

While I have a few weeks still to go in the chair I would like thank you all for the fellowship and the support you give the Club and to me. Remember to give our lady members who are participating in the “Moon Walk” your support gentlemen and do bring your partner, friends etc to Youth and Vocation’s Committee’s version of the X Factor.

Kind Regards,

President John

News Items

April 15th -  RachaelRachael McClure, an Ambassadorial Scholar who is currently study for her MBA at Stirling University took time out to talk to us about her home town and experience of Scotland. Rachael, who hails from Mississippi hopes to enter politics on her return to the USA.   She is also a Rotarian so exchanged the custormary banners with President John.

April 29th - Robert Sibley gave a very interesting account of his daily life as a Puppy Walker. Accompanied by Sadie who was impeccably behaved, he told us how the formative years of the puppies were manged to prepare them for their future role as Guide-dogs. The regime is strict. Even natural functions are done to order to avoid eventual embarassment to their future blind owners. Puppies that don't make the grade, in fact 99% of them, are offered to the police or to the military or, for the lucky ones, to their puppy walker. In all, an enlightening talk, well presented and thought provoking.

Janet was moved to send the following....

" As most of you know, I am doggy daft  but having investigated doing puppy walking myself, I knew that I could not do it. The thought that if puppy and I achieved what we were meant to then the pup would have to go,  was a service too far above this self.  However over the years I have sponsored a number of puppies during their year of socialising  and enjoy receiving the "Pupdates".

If anyone is interested, further information on this and other ways in which you can help the service such as sending them spent inkjet printer cartridges and old mobile phones for recycling can be found at www.guidedogs.org.uk............Janet "

Also on Sports, our own club curlers in the shape of Ian Stevenson, George Delgaty, Colin Moreland and guest Stuart Cameron from Perth St John's did exceptionally well at the recent World Championships in Canada. In the semi-final they were beaten by a single shot by the eventual winners and in the play-off for third place they won by a convincing 9-0. Congratulations all round!
