Louise, who you may remember giving a talk to us last August has sent a Christmas message. Unfortunately it is a bit too long (6 pages ! ) to include here but if anyone wants a copy please let your editor know. The bottom line is that she is doing well and enjoying the experience.

Her opening message is:

Meri Christmas na hamamas nupela Year

Here I am now, over two months in (PNG) and yes I am still missing pies! Looking back at the past month has been strange, as so much has happened, for more info check out my blog at myspace.com/carseinpng. Please pass this newsletter onto anyone who might be interested in life here in PNG. Christmas just does not feel like Christmas here, it is all very surreal. People celebrate it in exactly the same way as back home but in 35-degree heat. I hope Santa was good to you all and I am wishing everyone all the best for 2007. I am thinking of you all!

Donation to Macmillan Nurses

At the Christmas Party, Mike and Jane were delighted to win the raffle prize Hamper, kindly donated by Eva Smart. As an additional prize they had the option to nominate a charity to receive the raffle proceeds. MacMillan Nurses was their choice. On January 11th a cheque to the value of £325 was duly handed over to Shirley Millar at a short ceremeny in the Royal George. Perth Kinnoull Rotary Charity Event

This hastily arranged Perth Kinnoull Rotary Charity Event was courtesy of the 2007 Organising Committee of the Ramada Perth Masters Curling Bonspiel who allowed us to set up a Display, which of course included our Super Duper Charity Event Banner and on the tables showed examples of work and charities we have supported in the past e.g Chernobyl Children also the Club's involvement in the sport of Curling e.g. the recent Curling Tour of Scotland by Canadian Rotarians- 50 years that this event has taken place.

We initially Set up for a Silent Auction for 2 Autographed T. Shirts of Team Canada and Curling is Life but it was so (Whisper) SILENT that we had no bids Friday afternoon and evening and Saturday morning, that a change of strategy was called for.

In consulatation with Janet Simpson our legal advisor on such matters, we decided to amend entries to a Charity Draw for the T Shirts, Team Canada and Curling is Life which were autographed willingly by Team Gushue, Olympic Curling Champions from Newfoundland, Team Ferbey 2002,2003, 2005 World Champions from Edmonton, Alberta and Team Howard current Leading Money Winners in Canada from Toronto. On the Team Canada Shirts also the signatures of Wayne Middaugh, a Canadian Curling legend and Lorio di linio, Mr "Balance Plus" the creator of the Curling Shoes and equipment used by the vast majority of Curlers to-day. On the Curling is Life shirt, the signatures were the 3 Canadian teams plus Scotland's own World Champions, Team Murdoch.

We requested a Donation of £2 for a chance to win either of the T-shirts and the Winners drawn on Sunday before the Curling Final by the Provost, Bob Scott were Lars Christiansen a Rotarian from Fife, Christine Stewart, Houston Johnstone who was Umpiring at the event and Lynn Cameron a Curler who represented Great Britain at the 2006 Turin Winter Olympic Games and finally Colin Macgregor who had come down from Nairn to watch the event. All were delighted with their prizes and a sum of £196 was raised for local Charities.

My thanks goes to the following Rotarians for their assistance, at short notice, to man the desk and to get entries for the draw and generally make the public who attended this the biggest International Curling Event in Scotland this year aware of what we are doing as a Rotary Club in supporting local Charities and organisations.

Thanks to Frank Muirden, Harry and Lorraine Cooper, Willie Monks, Janet Simpson, Colin Moreland, Peter Macdougall, Mike Graham, John Shedden, Iain Smith and Greg Ross. I think they enjoyed the experience and it just goes to show how quickly members respond when a likely Fund Raising Project is given the Green Light at short notice.

P.S. 2 remaining Autographed T Shirts have been put for Auction on E Bay via Michael Thomson and we are hopeful of Bids of £30 for Curling is Life and £15 for Team Canada. Here's hoping we can add to the Charity Coffers of the Club.
