President's December Message

District Governor Bill Leslie
with President Amanda...

... and with Sue Fitzsimons

November saw the visit of District Governor Bill Leslie to our Club. He was joined by his wife Mary and they enjoyed fellowship with the members prior to the meeting proper.

During the meeting he made the presentation of Danny's Past Presidents medal to Sue Fitzsimons who joined us for the evening.

Bill was then given a presentation of what we as a Club have been doing and plan to do in his year as District Governor. Bill then spoke to us about what he thought we were doing and some of what he has been doing thus far in his year. He has visited many of the Clubs in the District already and so piled on many miles either in the company of his wife or fellow Rotarians who have shared the driving with him.

He is certainly putting in the time and effort in visiting Clubs. He had many positive things to say about our Club and I believe that he will remember us over some others! It's all good!!

I was unable to attend the Perth Club Dinner on Friday 17th November due to the rapid onset of one of this winters 'bugs''. Infecting the Perth membership did not strike me as an appropriate way to support a local Club! I suspect though that some of the usual suspects from Perth Kinnoull were present and thereby ensured Club representation. Apologies and best wishes for the evening were sent to President Bill Miller.

Bill Leslie also had the ''pleasure'' of my company at the District Council meeting in Aberdeen 19th November where points were made against the proposed re-zoning of our District 1010 particularly as regards the possible move of Auchterarder from our Zone. DGE Clive Batram has reconsidered and the final details of any re-zoning (which has been approved to increase the zones from 6-8) will be approved or not and the next District Council in March. Assurances have been given that Auchterarder will not be leaving their close Rotary friends. I will be keeping in touch with those involved to maintain our support for Auchterarder and ensuring advance warning of any proposed changes.

The festive season is almost upon us. The conclusion of the first six months of my year is also approaching. Here's to them and to Douglas Sinclair for ensuring that our Christmas meeting will not run dry!

At this festive time please also remember the need for Auction Prizes for the President's dinner 30th March as that date will not be long in arriving once the festivities are past. The more opportunities and time available for lateral thought hopefully the greater number of unusual auction prizes to catch our guests imagination and desire to exercise their cheque-books. This applies equally to the raffle. Ways and Means will be grateful, I am sure, for all your support.

Have fun

Amanda
