Wed 15th November:
0800hr: Call from George. Walk is on!

Hastily get ready; pack rain gear; and head for the rendez-vous - Broxton P & R. This is it! What we've been waiting for, the start of the Great Walk.

The plan is to walk the Fife Coastal Path in stages, each ending with a visit to a local Rotary Club.

Janet and George "Lead the Way!"

Today the route is North Queensferry to Dalgety Bay, a short trip just to test the idea.

Starting at Deep Sea World in North Queensferry, the route heads North then East towards shore, through the Wildlife Trust reserve and onto the more industrial zones; an interesting combination of old and modern, quarry workings, scrap yards and beautiful scenery. The air is still, so still that the Forth is like a millpond. Arthur's Seat and Edinburgh Castle are visible in the distance. The path is good, well signposted and not too onerous. After the enormous, abandoned quarry (would make a good site for up-market housing) it takes us north into Inverkeithing, through the town centre by the Mercat Cross and back down to the coast at the other side of the harbour. From here it is a leisurely walk to Dalgety Bay.

A quick change of clothes, then to the Rotary Club of Inverkeithing & Dalgety Bay for lunch and a welcome pint. President David Macpherson makes us most welcome and presents us with their Club Banner. The Club has a lively air about it with lots of friendly banter between the President and the members. It seems like we are at home!. The speaker, Christine Curtis, entertains us with an excellent talk about the girls' and youngsters' football teams, for which she coaches, raises funds and generally looks after. All of this under the auspices of SPL Club, Dunfermline Athletic FC, whose Chairman John Yorkston was also at the lunch.

It was a fun day out!
