Canadian Rotary Curlers

A party of 22 Canadian Rotary Curlers Toured Scotland 1st- 29th November. They visited Perth fairly early on their tour, 5th-6th November and the following Perth Kinnoull Rotarians and their Partners enjoyed hosting their Canadian Guests.

Those who hosted were:-

George and Ann Delgaty who hosted Bill Beattie from the Rotary Club of Kingston in Ontario who is in Business Development.

Ian and Myra Stevenson who hosted Drew Dulmage from the Rotary Club of Grimsby, Ontario who is in Medical Equipment Sales.

Willie and Catherine Monks who hosted Dennis Kuysten from the Rotary Club of Willowdale, Ontario who is in Vehicle Leasing.

Colin and Margaret Moreland who hosted Sandy Murray from the Rotary Club of Picton, Ontario who is a Public Accountant.

Steve Blackett who hosted Al Madill from the Rotary Club of Simcoe, Ontario who is retired.

Ian and Laura Baird who hosted Ken Seim from the Rotary Club of Peterborough, Ontario who is a Real Estate Appraiser.

The Programme for the Perthshire leg of the Tour was that we all met up at Perth Ice Rink on the morning of Wednesday 5th November and then took our Canadian guests home before heading for a civic reception at the City Chambers hosted by Provost Liz Grant. Then it was down to the curling which the Scots won overall. As it was Guy Fawkes Night all the Perth Kinnoull Rotarians and their guests met up at Wetherspoons for refreshment before heading off for the Splendid Fireworks Display on the South Inch; followed by High Tea at the Royal George Hotel enjoyed by all in the Conservatory.

Thursday was mainly taken up with the Rotary Charity Curling Bonspiel organised by Perth Rotarian, Bill Duncan; an all-day affair with two 3 end games in the morning and two 3 end games in the afternoon. We enjoyed meeting up with other Rotarians from all over Scotland and curling against some more of the Canadians. One of Canadian rinks were the winners and a good sum was raised for Local and International Charities. After High Tea we spent some time with our Guests before ensuring that they were on time for their early Friday morning journey to Inverness which was their next stop on the Tour. They have now left these shores with plenty good memories of their month in Scotland.
