Charity Quiz Night

The Gannochy Trust quiz team were the winners at a recent quiz night jointly organised by the Soroptimists International Perth and the Rotary Club of Perth Kinnoull. The beneficiary of the proceeds, which amounted to £836, was the Seema’s Children’s Home in Pune, India.

The children living there are the offspring of sex workers who were trafficked from their homes in Nepal, Bengal and other parts of India. These young women and girls were tricked into believing they were going to good jobs. In reality they were sold to the brothel keepers of Pune’s red light district.

Ms Seema Waghmode has worked for over twenty years with the young sex slaves and aims to move the children away from the brothels to a new home. Seema hopes to build a rehabilitation centre where freed sex workers can be restored to a life of dignity. Her project has been adopted as a project of the Scottish charity 'Free To Live Trust'.
