Hosted by Ken Thompson, we had a visit by a friend of Bob Thomspon in the guise of Jonathan Miller. Jon has visited us before and gave an interesting talk on an unsolved historical murder case in the Sma' Glen but this time the talk was very different.
An extremely well researched presentation on munitions that have been dumped at sea post WWI and beyond. A rather alarming count of unexploded arnaments lie not too far out at sea in our coastal waters, while they slowly decompose in the saline water of the sea. These include sea mines, depth charges, missiles and some bombs/missiles containing nerve agents. There were also pictures of old Russian submarines scuttled off north Russian/Siberian coast where the nuclear reactor is in place and will likely leak at some point. A shocking state of affairs.
