We were visited by Ken McLennan, our district governor, who gave a very thought provoking talk around the theme of "Imagine". Where the club were encouraged to think about what the club can do and can be in the next 5 - 10 years.
Ken also mentioned member retention. Why do we in Rotary lose so many members in their first 3 years? Do we ask them why they left? Chances are we don't. It was also said that, members who have passed on withstanding, had we retained members we've lost in the last 5 years our membership would be around a healthy 40+.
Membership is always a hot topic and it's encouraged that, not only do we need to recruit younger members for succession, but also "young thinkers" and some blue sky thinking.
Ken is picured to the far right with President Steve Fairlie on far left, plus visiting Rotarian Ally Bruce from Orkney and Vice President Gillian Marsh. Second picture is Ally his pal Bob Abernethy and Rotarian Frank Muirden who was visitors host for the evening. Bob reconnecting with Ally a week ago in Kinross as they used to be neighbours in Orkney and hadn't seen each other in 25 years! Also - Ally's wife taught Bob's sons when they were in Primary School. A small world indeed!
It was nice to see Ken in person rather than in a big game of Celebrity Squares on Zoom calls.
