Kids Out Day

Wednesday 8th June was Rotary International sponsored KidsOut Day, and we did our bit.

50 or so kids and lots or carers, parents and professionals enjoyed themselves at the Active Kids Adventure Park at Stanley under perfect weather conditions, not too hot. The park has something for everyone, and the kids made full use of activities from watching the farm animals, exotic animals, every activity game from Go-Karting to big slides to trampoline.

Susanne and Kerr Currie who own the park generously give everyone free access to the park for this special day. The Club donate T-shirts and caps with 'KidsOut' logo for the kids and the carers, and we also pick up the tab for teas/coffees and a cake or scone for the adults. Each school organises their own coach for the day, although we take care of the invoices.

One very moving moment was when everyone was arriving and Bob A and I were standing to one side welcoming everyone when a young boy of about 10 ran up to me and through his arms around me and said “Thanks for everything” then he did the same to Bob. So much for health and safety advice!

One thing we found out when parents were thanking us for a great day out, was how great it was for them to meet other parents and their children, as normally most kids are picked up at home by taxi and dropped off again at home in the afternoon so parents don’t often get to talk to each other.

The kids who attended came from the Autism Base RDM School and Fairview School. I have received a very nice thank you letter which included a note written by some of the boys who really enjoyed the go-karts.
